Acupuncture

Frank’s acupuncture technique consists of inserting very thin stainless steel needles into acupuncture points on the body.  After he finds the qi with the needle (called “de qi” 得氣) Frank manipulates the needle to create the desired effect and facilitate the body’s capacity to heal itself.  Sensations may appear during or after manipulation that may resemble warmth, tingling, numbness, or an ache.  These are all natural sensations and are a part of the treatment.

The affect of acupuncture is to activate the nervous system, relax the muscles, increase circulation and stimulate the endocrine system.  By doing these things, acupuncture can treat many things – from fertility to back pain to gastroenteritis.  Part of Frank Griffo’s approach to treatment is to “open up” the area where the problem is, allow these systems to reengage in a healthy manner and let the body heal itself.

Other treatment methods can also be included under the term acupuncture:

Cupping (拔火罐 ba huo guan) is a therapy involving the placement of glass cups on the skin with a vacuum. The therapy is used to relieve stagnation, and is used in the treatment of respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia, and bronchitis. Cupping is also very beneficial in treating back, neck, shoulder, and other musculoskeletal pain.

Moxabustion (灸jiŭ) is used to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. Moxa also mitigates cold and dampness in the body and can turn breech babies. Moxibustion is especially effective in the treatment of chronic problems, deficient conditions (weakness), and obstetrics.
